Family Sponsorship Program

Family sponsorship is a key aspect of Canada's immigration system, allowing Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor certain relatives to live, study, and work in Canada as permanent residents. Here's a brief introduction to the main categories of family sponsorship:

Spousal Sponsorship

This program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner for Canadian immigration. The process involves submitting two parts of application package simultaneously: one for the sponsor and the other for the spouse or partner’s permanent residence. Applicants can choose between inland and outland applications, depending on where they and their partner reside during the application process.

Parental Sponsorship

Through the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), eligible sponsors can apply to bring their parents or grandparents to Canada.  Sponsors must meet certain income requirements and prove their ability to financially support their sponsored family members.

Super Visa

This is an alternative for parents and grandparents who want to visit their family in Canada for extended periods. The Super Visa allows them to stay for up to five years on their initial visit and can apply to extend their stay. Applicants must provide various documents, including proof of relationship and financial support from their child or grandchild in Canada, and undergo a medical examination.

Child Sponsorship

Canadian citizens or permanent residents can sponsor their dependent children, including adopted children, for Canadian immigration. The child must be unmarried, under 22 years old (or dependent due to a physical or mental condition if older), and the sponsor must demonstrate financial capacity to support the child.
